Some Good News

Good News 1
Derby City Council Planning Committee have approved the proposal to install a surfaced path alongside the River Derwent through Darley Park.
This will give all weather access to the park from Handysides Bridge through to Darley Abbey and form the start of the Derwent Valley Cycleway which will eventually put in a traffic free route along the Derwent Valley to Matlock.

Good News 2
The White Peak Loop from Matlock to Rowsley is now officially open after considerable delays caused by Peak Rail locking the railway crossing at the Matlock end. Other than that the route has been complete for quite some time.
Derbyshire County Council have done a superb job here both with the construction of the route and in overcoming the problems with Peak Rail.
You can access the route best by train from Derby and it makes a superb flat 5 mile each way ride. Trains go hourly. See my Blog Two Wheels and a Camera for photos and video.  Go to http://simssycling.blogspot.co.uk and wind back to March 2016.

As Les says, the crossing has been open for a week at least, but over the last week DCC has been attending to a few other details. In particular, the section of pavement alongside the A6 from opposite Arc Leisure/Premier Inn up to the entrance to the level crossing has been widened, which means that this wider pavement now extends from the Sainsbury's roundabout all the way to the crossing. Secondly, a coating of non-slip surface has been laid on the ramps on either side of the crossing itself. Overall, a superb job! Chapeau, DCC!
